In my Kitchen Cupboard

I wanted to discuss what’s in my kitchen cupboard’s at home as I believe everyone should have them!

1. Coconut Oil – This is my new favourite thing to cook with. I used to cook everything in Olive Oil, but since I’ve been using Coconut Oil I haven’t touched Olive Oil at all! Coconut Oil is a great product with lots of health benefits. Coconut Oil contains a lot of saturated fatty acids but they are medium chain Triglycerides. Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs) are a unique form of dietary fat that impart a wide range of positive health benefits. MCT’s offer a triple approach to weight loss – 1) lower calorie content that other fats, 2) minimally stored as fats and 3) contribute to enhanced metabolism to help burn even more calories. So when you go and buy Coconut Oil don’t be alarmed by the food label because it shows it is high in saturated fatty acids, because these fatty acids are good for you!

2. Cinnamon – I looooove Cinnamon! It’s such a great spice and I don’t think people use it enough! Since I have been carb cycling, I put cinnamon in everything! Cinnamon is an excellent source of fibre and the trace mineral manganese while also a very good source of calcium. In addition to its unique essential oils, Cinnamon is a powerful antioxidant and also helps to control blood sugar levels. I sprinkle cinnamon on my Total 0% Greek Yoghurt, add to smoothies, home made protein bars & cookies and porridge for a natural sweet flavouring.

3. Nut Butters – My new obsession ❤ I have got an amazing selection of nut butters that I adore. At the moment in my cupboard I’ve got Meridian Cashew Butter, Meridian Smooth Peanut Butter, Meridian Almond Butter, Nuts n More Chocolate Peanut Butter, Nuts n More Pumpkin Spice Peanut Butter & Nuts n More Cinnamon and Raisin Almond Butter. They all taste incredible, and I put them in everything haha. Some would say I have an obsession? And to be honest, I think I do! Haha. They are so versatile, I use these nut butters to make other spreads and butters, put them in my protein yoghurt on low carb days, use them to make protein bites and bars, marinade meat, the list goes on! They are all low in sugar but super high in protein & healthy fats, great for carb cycling!

4. Protein Shake – When I first started going to the gym about 11 months ago, I was having Protein World’s Slender Blend as a meal replacement. For the first week I lost a couple of pounds, but that was it. I decided to stop ordering it as I wasn’t getting the results I was hoping for. When I stopped having the protein shake I decided to increase the protein in my diet from foods instead. I’ve noticed a change in my body since I stopped having the Slender Blend, and I think it’s down to diet! Now because of my diet and training as much as I do, I decided to try protein shakes out again. I’m currently using Reflex Instant Whey Pro based on recommendation. It’s great for my diet as it is low in carbs and sugars so I always have it for breakfast on my low carb days. I’ve started to use it a lot more in my cooking and baking. So now I’m always having protein oats on high carb days, making protein cookies, protein bites and protein bars. I would really recommend this protein powder if you are looking to incorporate it more into your cooking. There are so many flavours to choose from as well! So there’s bound to be one you like.

I couldn’t live without the four products listed above. I use all these products every day to add flavour to my dishes which makes my diet a lot more exciting! I would advise you to start using these products a lot more, not only to give your food flavour but because of the nutritional benefits too.
