I’d just like to start off by saying a HUGE thank you to my PIC Beki. I was lucky enough to get to know her through twitter and we met for the first time in Body Power. We literally talk everyday and I’m eternally great full for her constant support. I know we refer to each other as twins but we’re so similar its sometimes scary. I’m so proud and happy for her as she’s recently bought her own beautiful home with her boyfriend, I couldn’t think of anyone who deserves it more. This girl takes on so much and just gets on with it, and is honestly one of the most selfless people I’ve ever met.
So meeting Beki through twitter is just one example of the positive effects that I have personally experienced from social media. When we refer to our ‘social media family‘ it’s the group of people we’ve all met via twitter who’ve slowly developed into an online family. I like to think of it as a ‘support network‘ made up of like-minded individuals with similar goals that encourage and motivate one another.
Social media is SUCH a powerful tool when harnessed correctly. A lot of people I chat to have experienced feeling quite lonely and judged upon starting their own personal journey whether that be preparing for a bodybuilding/bikini competition or simply embarking on a healthier lifestyle journey. This makes the concept of finding a group of individuals who share your goals and aspirations so important for success and perseverance, and here’s where social media can play a huge part in helping you to do so.
I love my ‘online family‘ and I could sit here and list all the names of those who inspire & motivate me everyday but the truth is – you know who you are!
But is social media always a good thing? Or do we sometimes get too caught up comparing ourselves to others? I know I for one have been guilty of this in the past and have had to stop and remind myself that I am an individual. Your goals are unique to you and at the end of the day, health and happiness should be your biggest aspiration.
So my message is this;
Surround yourself with those who push, encourage and support your dreams, but also distance yourself from those that don’t, life is too short for negativity. Most importantly, you don’t have to justify yourself to anyone – always remember that.
Lots of love ❤
