Banana Bread. Not going to lie, I used to absolutely hate it. But, since I have cut out refined sugars all I crave are bananas and banana bread! My Cardiff Sports Nutrition parcel turned up the other day and I was pleasantly surprised to see that I had been given New Hope Mill Banana & Walnut Bread/Muffin Mix! I have never heard or seen this brand before so I was super eager to try it 🙂
The first thing you look at when you see an ‘add water mix’ is the nutritional value. And once again, I was pleasantly surprised! They use low GI Carbohydrates sources to replace typical flours, that are high in Protein and low in Carbohydrates and Sugar. So basically, if you’re trying to cut Sugar out of your diet you can still have cake! Their mixes come in three different flavours – Banana & Walnut, Blueberry and Orange & Cranberry, which are all low carb but still taste delicious.
I am seeing a lot more low carb mixes becoming available and I believe this is down to the fast pacing environment we all live and work in now. Which is a shame, but at the same time it is brilliant to see that these convenient low carb products are now becoming available.
Anywayyyyy. I baked the bread as per the instructions on the packet, however it only took about 40 minutes to bake! The house smelt delicious and I couldn’t wait to tuck in!
It’s an incredibly moist loaf, which to me tastes quite savoury! You get a hint of banana but not as much as I thought. Eating it on it’s own was okay, but I preferred it when I smothered it in Peanut Butter haha. I have such a sweet tooth which is why I was probably a little disappointed with the overall flavour. I was expecting something a little sweeter but at the end of the day it is a low carb & low sugar bread!
I decided instead of just eating it as it was, I would jazz it up a bit! So for breakfast this morning I made Protein French Toast (a Protein Pow recipe available in Anna’s Book) which was insanely delicious! I topped it with Caramalised Banana, Pic’s Peanut Butter & Dark Chocolate Drops ❤
I could have eaten this breakfast all over again! As for the bread, I can’t see myself tucking into it just as it is. Overall, I was impressed with the texture but it is lacking in something. Next time I might add some dark chocolate drops to the batter or maybe a mashed banana to give it a bit more oomf!
